Self-Care Spells to Try This Halloween


Happy Halloween! For many, Halloween represents a time to celebrate the turning of the season. It can represent a unique opportunity to celebrate the playful and imaginative facets of our personalities, allowing us to escape from the daily routine and embrace our creativity. It also serves as a symbol of our capacity to confront and engage with our fears, reminding us that acknowledging and challenging our “ghosts from the past” can lead to personal growth and transformation.


This Halloween, we’d like to connect to the spirit of fun and playfulness, while also highlighting an important element of mental health: self-care. Rise and Thrive Counseling is here to help celebrate the season with 3 self-care spells to try this spooky season! Keep on reading for more.


Self-Care Spell #1: Mindful Breathing Break

Practicing mindfulness and connecting with your breath can halt a thought spiral so quickly, it’s like magic. To try this self-care spell, follow these steps:

  1. Find a quiet and comfortable space.

  2. Sit or lie down and close your eyes.

  3. Take a deep breath in through your nose for a count of four.

  4. Hold the breath for a count of two

  5. Exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of six. Repeat this deep-breathing pattern for a few minutes, focusing on each breath to help calm your mind and reduce stress.

Self-Care Spell #2: Fall Foliage Art

Gather your ingredients for a spellbinding work of art, inspired by the world around you. To do this self-care spell, follow this steps:

  1. Collect a variety of colorful fall leaves, small branches, or acorns.

  2. Set up a creative workspace with paper, glue, and markers.

  3. Arrange the natural elements into art, like leaf collages or autumn-themed cards.

  4. Let your imagination flow as you design your own fall-inspired art.

  5. Display your creations to bring the beauty of fall into your space.


Self-Care Spell #3: Halloween Baking Session

Your “ghoul-friends” will appreciate your hard work during this baking self-care spell! To do this activity, falling the steps below:

  1. Select your favorite fall recipe (e.g., pumpkin pie, apple crisp, or cinnamon muffins).

  2. Gather the necessary ingredients and preheat your oven.

  3. Get into the baking spirit with some autumn music in the background.

  4. Follow the recipe and savor the warm, aromatic delights as they bake.

  5. Share your treats with loved ones or enjoy them with a hot beverage.
